Buyer's guide

# Choose strategic intelligence software by the decision it has to support.

The right tool depends on the decision in front of you: winning deals against named rivals, researching companies in depth, tracking a market across languages, or testing your strategy against what is changing. Start from that decision and your shortlist gets short.

SOON connects your business knowledge, continuous market research and next moves: Know, See, Move.

No vendor here is ranked. Each is named for what it is best at, from public information checked on 18 October 2026. Figures marked "vendor says" come from the vendor.

## Start with six questions

**What decision will it support?**

A sales team closing deals against named rivals needs different software from an investment committee testing a thesis or a brand choosing its next market. Write the decision down before you book a demo.

**Does it start from your context?**

Can you give it your strategy, priorities and expertise once, so its research reflects your business rather than generic knowledge?

**Does it keep working between questions?**

Some tools answer when you ask. Others research on a schedule and show you what changed since you last looked.

**Can you inspect the evidence?**

Check that you can see the source behind a claim and when it was seen, before you put it in front of a board or a client.

**Who will use it, and where?**

Analysts, sales teams and leadership need different outputs. Check whether people can use it from the tools they already work in, including AI assistants.

**What will it cost to run?**

Most vendors in this category do not publish pricing. Ask about seats, analyst hours and contract length, and what happens when your team grows.

## What the analyst reports say

In April 2026 Gartner published its first Magic Quadrant for Competitive and Market Intelligence Platforms. It evaluated 14 vendors: AlphaSense, ChapsVision, Cikisi, Comintelli, Contify, Crayon, EMIS, Evalueserve, Klue, Market Logic, Northern Light, Stravito, Valona and WatchMyCompetitor. AlphaSense, Crayon, Klue, Valona and Northern Light say they were named Leaders. SOON was not evaluated.

Forrester's Wave for market and competitive intelligence, Q3 2026, is another reference; AlphaSense says it was the only Leader.

Use these reports to build a longlist. Then test each tool on a decision you actually face.

## Where SOON fits, and where it does not

SOON is built for teams who make strategic calls on changing markets and want research shaped by their own strategy. Choose another tool first if you need:

- Broker research, filings and expert call transcripts: AlphaSense.
- Battlecards and win-loss programmes for a large sales team: Crayon or Klue.
- Analyst-curated newsletters across many languages: Contify or Valona.
- A database of private companies and their funding: CB Insights.
- Consumer and fashion trend forecasts: WGSN.

Choose SOON when you need research that keeps running on your market questions, starts from your Brain and carries through to next moves, in the SOON Platform or inside your AI assistant. Read how [a Strategic Intelligence OS](https://soon.com.au/strategic-intelligence-os) works.

## Run a fair trial

01

### Pick one live decision.

Choose a real question your business must answer in the next quarter, not a demo topic.

02

### Give every tool the same brief.

Same question, same context, same few weeks. Note what each one found and when it found it.

03

### Trace the evidence.

For each finding, check the source and the date. Count how many you could verify.

04

### Watch who uses it.

The best tool is the one your team still opens in week four. Ask them why.

## Common questions

**What is strategic intelligence software?**

Software that helps you understand what is changing in your markets and what it means for your decisions. It spans competitive intelligence tools, market intelligence platforms, research databases and strategic intelligence platforms such as SOON.

**What is the best strategic intelligence software?**

It depends on the decision. For broker research and expert calls, AlphaSense. For sales battlecards and win-loss, Crayon or Klue. For curated multilingual monitoring, Contify or Valona. For research that starts from your strategy and carries through to next moves, SOON.

**What is the difference between competitive intelligence and market intelligence?**

Competitive intelligence tracks named rivals: their pricing, messaging, launches and hiring. Market intelligence covers the wider market: customers, technology, regulation, capital and adjacent players. Strategic intelligence connects both to your own strategy and decisions.

**Do these tools work with ChatGPT and Claude?**

Several now offer MCP connectors. Crayon launched one in September 2025, Klue in December 2025 and CB Insights has an official one. AlphaSense has one in beta and Valona has one in pilot. No official connector from Contify was found. SOON connects to Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Cursor and Codex.

**How much does strategic intelligence software cost?**

Most vendors in this category, including AlphaSense, Contify and SOON, do not publish pricing. Exploding Topics is an exception, at $39, $99 or $249 a month. Ask each vendor about seats, analyst hours and contract length.

**Is SOON in Gartner's Magic Quadrant?**

No. SOON was not among the 14 vendors Gartner evaluated in its first Magic Quadrant for Competitive and Market Intelligence Platforms, published in April 2026.
